Another film from the Rebel Highway series is Girls In Prison (Girls In Prison, 1994). A detective story based on the rockabilly standard of Jody Reynolds. Director John McNaughton, who had shot Mad Dog and Gloria a year earlier, shot this bi-movie, the leitmotif of which was the immortal Endless Sleep (1958). The film is a remake of Girls in Prison 1956.
Los Angeles, the year is 1952. American soldiers are dying in Korea, and there is a “witch hunt” in the USA. A young girl Aggie O’Hanlon (Missy Kreider) is accused of murdering the head of Olympia Records and sentenced to life in prison.
In prison, she has friends: girls who were also sentenced for murder, involuntary criminals, they did it in a state of passion. Melba (Bani Tarpin) removed the presenter live, shocked by the broadcast of the military chronicle on TV. Carol (Aion Skye), being depressed by the sad case of her father, hit some drunk misogynist and McCarthyist with a bottle in a bar, but did not calculate the force. This is a rare film in which the police arrive on time. And even too fast, as if they were waiting around the corner.
And in the case of the girl with the guitar, the case was fabricated, she went to prison for absolutely nothing. Just because she couldn’t say anything in her own defense and they didn’t even give her a lawyer. Aggie finds out that she was framed to get her super hit, and sexy secretary Jennifer (Ann Heche) is involved. And in prison, the girls are like a selection, all beauties and models. Aggie’s case is taken up by the cruel Chicano detective Lucky (Miguel Sandoval), who looks like the Russian TV personality Eduard Sagalaev. This one will expose the villains.
John Polito, as in Miller’s Crossroads, also plays the boss here – Johnson. There were times when music producers were big fish, and everyone wanted to take their place – it’s no joke, you can drink at lunch at work, and your office has a view of the Hollywood hills! The hosts of the radio show also ran the business and nailed be healthy.
There are 2 versions of Endless Sleep in the film, one of them performed by Missy Kreider.
The second in the credits Concrete Blonde – Endless Sleep
It turns out that it’s easy to get into prison, but it’s also easy to get out of there if someone shouted his confession into a megaphone, justifying you. The film ends with a concert at which Aggie performs his super hit. And Johnny Cash also understood that all conditions were created for performances in American prisons.
