Fireball – cocktail recipe from the movie The Guest

The Guest (2013) is a film that combines a killer electronic soundtrack and a good plot, but the decision of the creators in this very plot not to tell the story of the main antihero and limit themselves to hints, as well as an extremely clichéic ending that stopped just a step away from clichéic nirvana, in my opinion, reduced this film to an evaluation the maximum is above average. Which is somewhat sad. But do you know what I immediately noticed when watching this movie? The Fireball cocktail that the film’s antagonist drinks.

Perhaps there is no better advertisement for a drink than his participation in the film as a drink of one of the central characters. And that montage where it’s poured into a glass, mmm… As soon as I saw that scene, I knew at the same moment that I was going to drink in the near future.

Cocktail Proportions

Unfortunately, there was very little information about the cocktail, but in an interview Dan Stevens said that there was only cinnamon liqueur and hot sauce in the glass, as the bartender says in the film itself. Based on this statement, I made up my recipe. So.

Fireball Cocktail Recipe:
Cinnamon liqueur 60 ml;
Tabasco sauce 1 teaspoon.

Add Tabasco sauce, one teaspoon per 60 ml of liqueur. Mix it up. Knock over a cup. Hold it in your mouth for a second to taste the sweetness of cinnamon. Swallow it. The sweetness of cinnamon will quickly turn into peppery, and then leave you alone with the burning cinnamon-peppery pungency.

My notes

I made the proportions for myself, and I’m a person who likes spicy food and, therefore, is used to it. Maybe you should try adding less Tabasco for the first time. Also remember that this cocktail is not for weak stomachs. This amount of pepper can lead to unpleasant consequences… And anyway, it’s not healthy to drink! Come on, you’d better go to the gym, you alcoholic! I’m kidding, I’m kidding…

In the movie, Dan drinks something too red. Tabasco sauce is never that red, so either there were dyes in the glass, which is most likely, or another hot sauce. Anyway, it is in the proportion I have indicated that the cinnamon liqueur acquires a color quite comparable to the color of the sauce. You can try using a different sauce, but I like Tabasco.

My cinnamon liqueur is Smirnoff Gold. The resulting reddish color of the cocktail, complete with pieces of gold, is quite reminiscent of fire, it seems to me. But, I must say, I have a very rich imagination.

That’s what I’m getting at. It’s hardly worth adding more sauce. It will completely kill all shades of cinnamon, except sweet. And then, it seems to me, there will be little point. And this ratio is just right to preserve all the shades of taste and at the same time cause unprepared people to react a la “yes, there’s a solid pepper, and you drink it?”.

And one more thing. In the movie, Dan drinks a whole glass of this cocktail. Well, he throws half of that glass in some guy’s face… It doesn’t matter. In short, for me, three shots of 30 is the limit. If I ever risk slapping a cup, I’ll write a will first.

Such things. At one time, one such shot in front of the Worst Whopper from Burger King, and their jalapenos became completely imperceptible. It’s a great cocktail, but not for everyone and to suit the mood.
