We continue to review the Rebellious Highway series of TV movies and Confessions of a Sorority Girls (1994) is next in line – however, everyone is confused, is it a confession of one girl or several? After all, we have two 90s stars in the main female roles: Jamie Looner (Sabrina) and Alyssa Milano (Rita). The main male (Mort) of Brian Bloom – do you remember in “Once upon a Time in America” a cute green-eyed boy who ate a cake on the steps without waiting for the object of desire? He’s grown up.
This is a kind of remake of the 1957 film Sorority Girl (dir. Roger Corman). There, Sabra (Susan Cabot) beats up weak girls with a beater (spanking paddle), trying on the role of mistress, however, here someone also picks up a wooden tool. The old film was shown in conjunction with Motorcycle Gang, probably because of its short running time in a little over an hour.
Director Uli Edel, before this film, shot a rather tough Last Turn on Brooklyn (1989) and an almost pornographic Body as evidence (1993), and of the later ones I watched the Baader-Meinhof Complex (2008) about the German Red Brigades.
Attention! There may be spoilers revealing the content of the film
A girl named Sabrina is transferred to the prestigious Fillmore College, where her older sister previously studied and earned an impeccable reputation. Sabrina comes from a well-to-do family, she is attractive, even stunning! and drives a convertible. She may well become the president of the student society. Sorority is a university women’s club, we don’t have such a thing in universities, but in American colleges it’s such a central committee.
But Rita has already taken the place of the main one. And Sabrina has the whole set of dirty methods in her arsenal, from lies, deception to various kinds of blackmail. She uses her sexuality as a tool to achieve her own goals. This bad girl is used to getting everything she wants and doesn’t like being denied. Supporting roles are definitely not for her. Undoubtedly, she would have made a successful career in politics and would have become the president of the country, just need to change the scale of activities.
After all, Sabrina is a beauty with a chiseled figure who immediately sets her bar high. She behaves arrogantly and haughtily with everyone, while trying to appear friendly. This heroine is so attractive externally, so repulsive internally. But her ability to coldly plot and get her own way at any cost is sometimes admired and suggests the Nietzschean concept of Uberman “push the falling one!”
The Iron lady still suffers from the lack of attention and love of her mother, who always compares her to her eldest daughter, an exemplary champion in all areas of success. In an effort to surpass her sister, Sabrina knows neither fear nor reproach.
The problems in the film are really serious, not far-fetched. And all the characters behave naturally, plausibly and are not always childishly led to obvious provocations. According to Sabrina’s behavior model, you can write a book “How to lose friends and turn everyone against yourself.”

Jamie Looner is the future star of the television series Melrose Place, Savannah, etc. In 2018, someone Anthony Oliver, aged 36, said that two decades ago, 26-year-old Jamie seduced his 16-year-old in the midst of a party: gave him whiskey, gave him methamphetamine, and then gave him head. And all this was filmed by someone on camera. The case is quite egregious, but also cinematic. Perhaps the guy, by now already struggling with alcoholism and visiting a psychotherapist, decided to cut some money in the wake of sex scandals, but it seems like according to state law he should have reported what happened before he turned 28. Jamie herself categorically denied the incident. How do you like these “Confessions of a Sorority Girl”?
