Russian translation of the subtitles for another film is called Hot Rods To Hell, and in Russian it is known (to anyone at all) under the name 52 Miles of Fear. The year is 1966. This is another movie for television. Overall, the plot is not bad, but not addictive. The actors aren’t bad, but they’re not world-class stars. The director is working, but he doesn’t give out anything grandiose. All these people obviously had very little money. The night scenes were shot on a clear day, as the blackout is clearly artificial. In general, it would be good if the film lasted an hour, not an hour and a half – it was too long.
Then why is it needed at all? For the sake of watching hot rods! Classic, gassers, buckets – there are a lot of them here. They flash here and there, some stay on the screen a little longer, some are smaller, some are briefly touched by the camera. But I like this business, and that’s why I watched this movie in the first place. So I was satisfied. There are some very interesting specimens there. The car of the antagonists seemed to me to be a very nice dragster. It’s Gasser from the Chevrolet Corvette C1! Or what a red Ford is worth, getting into the frame a couple of times during the course of the film. Judging by the modest coloring, dust on the sides and the license plate on the back, this is not a show rod, but a fully working unit.
By the way, on the forums on the other side of the planet, I once came across a project in the form of building a replica car of the antiheroes of the film. That project was extremely good and described in every detail, and perhaps one day I will write about it, and then there will be a link to the article. But for now, I will highlight only one point from the entire forum. After the construction was completed, the car’s owner decided to ride it, and he noted that only hardcore motorheads recognized the Corvette as the car from the movie. However, there was one case when some guy literally rushed to him, almost shouting: “This is my favorite car of all time! I watch this movie at least twice a week!” The moral of the story is this: the film definitely has some potential, since it has such fans. The post dated back to 2014, by the way.
So, I suggest you watch this movie too. I doubt that it will win you over so much that you will review it twice a week, but for once, for a collection, it will definitely do. And in order not to bother you with searching for such an artifact, we have already found it for you and translated it into Russian. Cook the popcorn, press play, and enjoy watching it. And my subtitles in Russian are available at this link:
