The Car: The Road of Revenge (2019) – from Utah to Bulgaria

I want to start this article with a small remark that may save you a couple of minutes: The Car of 2019 is absolutely an average movie in all respects. And I’m not sure if I’ve already promoted the following idea in one of the articles on this site, but in any case, it makes sense to write it here and now: being average for a work of art is perhaps even worse than being bad. You see, the thing is that the brain-at least my brain-remembers either the good or the bad. Unfortunately, I can hardly ever forget a movie like The Outsiders – it sucked so much. The Car: The Road of Revenge, however, leaves almost nothing behind. After just a few days, almost all memories of this movie completely disappeared from my head, as if I had never watched it. Based on this, you can immediately decide if you want to know anything else about this movie.

Still here? Cool! Then here’s what I can tell you about this movie. First of all, I want to make clear the fact that The Car: The Road of Revenge is a thrash bi-movie. The film Death Race: Beyond Anarchy will be extremely close in all respects: both films were shot by the same Universal 1440 studio in the same Bulgaria. In other words, there is no hint of the seriousness and nightmare of what is happening, the atmosphere of which was in The Car’s original 77th year, there is no Revenge on the Road. At best, if we cite horror as an example, the Road of Revenge can be compared with slasher. But first of all, The Car of 2019 is still a thrash, and therefore, brazenly quoting his own words from an article about Death Race: Beyond Anarchy, the task of such a movie is to entertain the viewer in the simplest, basest ways: boobs, action, blood, metal.

However, my own quote, in my own opinion, fits like no other. All four of the above things were in Death Race:BeyondAnarchy – all four are present in The Car movie: The Road of Revenge. However, there are still some differences between the two films. For example, the location of the action varies somewhat. In Death Race 4, everything took place in a kind of super-prison, reminiscent of the wastelands after the apocalypse. In turn, in the Road of Revenge, the place of action is a certain city, which, apparently, has one foot in noir cyberpunk. It was not possible to pull the same on the second leg because of the cheapness of everything that is happening on the screen. Nevertheless, we have high technologies here in places, cyborgs with pneumatic hands, and prisoners are executed right in the courtroom in the bloodiest way possible.

Due to the fact that everything I see on the screen is forgotten extremely quickly, it is incredibly difficult for me to write at least something about the plot of the Road of Revenge. I daresay there is one. In my article about The Car’s original 77th, I wrote that there were two extremely memorable scenes in that movie. There is only one such scene in the Road of Revenge. Although no – even less than one. Half of the stage. The thing is, this one scene won’t work if you didn’t watch The Car first. And even if you watched it, it’s unlikely to be remembered. But in the event that you fell in love with the original movie and wanted to continue for many years – oh, yes, this scene will be just great and will stick in your memory for a long time. Personally, I literally screamed with delight. But it is not difficult not to pay attention to the fact that such an effect from this scene is more the merit of the original film than the Road of Revenge.

In principle, fans of The Car-77 can watch this movie only for the sake of this one scene. It is worth saying, however, that after it the cinema quickly and decisively loses ground. I literally can’t say why in any way, since any hint will spoil the probable pleasure of the only worthwhile scene in this whole movie, but as a result, the last minutes of the film I was sitting with a crooked face. Although, as if, by the very last minutes, the facial expression had become simpler… Anyway, how should I put it… It’s as if the authors of the Road of Revenge shot this super-cool scene all of a sudden for themselves, and as a result, they couldn’t figure out exactly what to do with it. And they messed up everything. Polymers, as it is known… Summing up the conversation about the plot, we can say that the final shots with an absolutely cliche ending do not even infuriate: at the time of their appearance on the screen, the stocks of hatred are just coming to an end. At least that’s how it was in my case.

I’m not going to lie about the actors, I still don’t remember much about anything. Apparently, the game was as gray as most of this movie – not particularly good, not particularly bad. Therefore, here are a couple of quotes from another review: the actors are well aware that they are being filmed in trash, which is very important. And, in fact, each character is a stereotype twisted to the maximum, each of which will surely be familiar to those who watch splatter horror. All I can say for myself is that I liked the makeup and costumes in this cheap cyberpunk freak show. I don’t know how big the budget was, but it seems to me that the costumers and make-up artists gave their best.

Of the prominent personalities in this film, only Kathleen Munro, whom I know from the film Emptiness of 2016, can be mentioned. And the screenwriter, oddly enough, is familiar to me: Michael Tubb, who wrote the script for the film Werewolf: The Beast Among Us before the Road of Revenge. It’s a pity, but none of the aforementioned films can be drawn to the rock and roll theme even by the ears, and therefore I’m writing about the Road of Revenge, not about them. Nevertheless, consider this paragraph a very short list of alternative films that you can watch on a beautiful autumn night. A kind of bonus for those who have read up to this point.

Well, as it seems to me, it remains only to tell about the last and most important reason to watch this movie, for which the average movie lover may want to watch a movie called The Car – this is, in fact, The Car. In his role is a custom Chrysler 300. The exact year of manufacture cannot be said, since very little is known about this car, however, judging by the hood, we have the last beautiful generation of this car, produced from 2005 to 2010. Personally, I am very pleased with the choice: the 300 of the neo-retro school seems to me to be one of the underrated muscle cars that quite deserve a little more attention to their person.

Who was involved in the customization of The Car that starred in the film is unknown, but the result turned out to be extremely pleasant, with a large chrome grille and features that are almost forgotten at the moment, like scissor doors. In short, evil looks cool, and it’s nice to look at it. Listening, too, although I personally still can’t figure out why The Car Barris’ original horn wasn’t used. Well, if I’m not mistaken, our new The Car doesn’t use a horn at all. But the engine sounds nice, yes. And, speaking of sound, I liked the soundtrack. Especially the final theme playing during the credits – Werewolf performed by the Truthsayer team – is an unambiguous rulez.

In addition to the antagonist, The Car appears on the screen, which at the moment have already, in fact, become classics. The same Neon from the 90s, which you could ride in the first NFS Underground, Toyota Celica of the two thousandth, which you could ride in the same place and many more places, Chevy Camaro of 2010 (that is, before the God-defying facelift)… In general, motorists are welcome. There is something to see here. But if you are not a The Car lover or a fan of the original film of the 77th year… Well, as mentioned above: The Void (2016) and Werewolf: The Beast Among Us (2012). I bet, out of three so different films, you will definitely be able to find at least one that suits your tastes. Enjoy watching!
