Check out what a cute 86 Dodge Ram 50 I found by chance on the Internet. Its name is Show’n’tell, and it’s the fastest pickup truck in Hawaii and possibly the fastest Ram 50 in the world. Its owner– Troy Ferge, bought it back in the 90s, in high school. I slowly replaced the wheels, then repainted, then changed the engine and transmission.…
Right now, under the hood of this car is a 434 GM Performance Parts Rocket Block engine, on top of which is a 14.71 Mooneyham supercharger (15% underdrive) with an Enderle bug trap. A set of pistons from Probe Industries with a compression ratio of 1:11, with Total Seal piston rings. Aluminum cylinder heads from Air Flow Research with intake and exhaust valves from Ferrea (51 mm and 40 mm, respectively).
This is not the first engine that has appeared under the hood of Show’n’tell. For a while, there was, for example, a small Chevy 350 unit. It was at that time that Troy realized that the pickup was getting too fast – the standard chassis simply could not withstand such power. It was time to change it, and Comrade Ferge installed suspension levers and hubs from the Mustang II, Koni/Alston coilovers, and reinforced the frame with a kit from Chris Elston. At that time, the set included only the front half, but later the rear half, 15-inch Cragar and Weld discs, Wilwood disc brakes, and more were added.
It takes a long time to list the technical features, as the original article is extremely detailed for once. I would even say it’s too detailed – it doesn’t seem to me that it makes much sense to disassemble the car with text down to every screw. Anyway, the results speak better than any words: a quarter mile at Maui Raceway Park is flown in 8.19 seconds at a speed of 269 km/h. That’s what skillful hands can do with an ordinary working pickup truck.
