Legendary Canadian bard Leonard Cohen passed away exactly 5 years ago, on November 7, 2016, at the age of 82. In 1975, the famous poet presented his own cocktail recipe called Red Needle. If you want to join the legacy of the iconic musician, keep the original recipe.
Red Needle
Fill a tall glass with crushed ice up to half full.
Add 2 ounces (60 ml) of tequila,
1 slice of lemon,
and top up with cranberry juice.
Repeat for each guest. Serve with smoked ham sandwiches under a plate of Various Positions.
This cocktail is also made at the Jewish Museum in New York. Lehaim, fellow countrymen!
I finally had the money to buy decent tequila, and I had cranberry juice, so more than a year later I tried it anyway.
The sourness is terrific. I liked it very much. A slice of lemon, in principle, can even be removed from the recipe – I did both, and I kind of liked it a little more without lemon. Although the difference is not that drastic.
In terms of proportions, I searched the web and made one part tequila into two parts cranberry juice. In my case, the parts turned out to be slightly less than an ounce – 40 ml of tequila per 80 ml of juice. After pouring it where it should be slightly mixed. Otherwise, everything was exactly according to the recipe: the glasses were steadily filled literally to the very brim, taking into account the crushed ice previously placed there to the middle.
In summary, I highly recommend this drink to all lovers of sour.
