I think it’s time to consider, well, just the most immortal and masculine classic from the world of alcohol – the Old Fashioned cocktail. My recipe is as follows:
Mix 1 teaspoon of simple syrup with one teaspoon of bitter. Add ice and pour 40 ml of whiskey.
Serve in a glass of the same name.
My notes:
Most of the recipes advise dissolving a sugar cube in water – so, this is, in fact, the preparation of a simple syrup. So if you have a simple syrup- and I always have it- then just use it. If not, then dissolve the sugar cube in a spoonful of water.
Bitter, it seems to me, can be taken according to taste, but the most canonical option is, of course, Angostura. It is quite possible to find it in our specialty stores. Well, whiskey is definitely to your taste. He’ll only get better with the bitter. But, of course, it’s worth mentioning that the most canonical choice is American bourbon.
It doesn’t seem necessary to stir, but if you feel that there is too much bitter at the bottom, then you can gently make one or two movements with a spoon. To taste. By the way, you can leave this spoon in a glass, it gives the cocktail a very Soviet look.
As a side dish, you can use either cocktail cherries or orange peel. That is all. Your health.
