Chris Isaac, Everybody Knows It's Christmas, Christmas Album review

Chris Isaac – Everybody Knows It’s Christmas: Rockabilly Blues on Christmas Eve

All of Chris Isaac’s music is a great addition to our summer days, but in his new work he definitely turns to winter. Everybody Knows It’s Christmas is the second of Isaac’s Christmas albums, released in 2022 (the first with the laconic name Christmas is dated 2004). The new album includes both popular Christmas standards and brand new songs written by Chris. Christmas rockabilly-country-jazz of the highest quality from your favorite kruner awaits you.

It seems that it was possible to do without these five Xmas standards quite calmly, but apparently they were used to complement the timing to a full-fledged album. The duration of this is a little more than 35 minutes, despite the number of 13 songs. The Silvertone band has been playing for more than three decades in a row, and the musicians complement each other perfectly.

Holiday Blues is a bluesy mood, it’s a slow, soulful tex-mex, it’s really sad to be alone at Christmas, but the California sadness is light. I Believe in Santa Claus – children who believe track down the appearance of Santa, just like in the Christmas Chronicles, and even adults’ wishes will come true. Everyone Knows It’s Christmas – only in San Francisco, where cold and snow are rare, and they come once a year for a short time, they can enjoy the holiday and praise it.

Christmas Comes But Once a Year – Christmas is once a year, but it’s too much if you’re not around, but when you come back, it’s definitely going to be a holiday.

Dogs Love Christmas Too is about the fact that all dogs can smell Santa’s appearance from a mile away, because he always brings them delicious treats in his bag.

The plot of the rockabilly gospel song Help Me Baby Jesus is definitely borrowed from Chris’ cinematic experience, someone kidnapped baby Jesus after seeing that he needed love. Wrapping Presents for Myself is a gentle, soulful Mexican about wrapping gifts for yourself, here’s your Christmas dinner on a paper plate, but you don’t remember what you ate there at all, you’re just stuck in your loneliness.

Almost Christmas is about a guy who is always late with a gift to his girlfriend, do not give in to procrastination, you need to buy gifts in November!

The album was released in late October, followed by vinyl a month later. This Christmas album definitely has a touch of sadness, because Chris’s mother Dorothy passed away in early 2021, and some of the new songs were composed against the background of this event.

“The Christmas holidays are a special time for me and the pandemic has isolated us all. I think the holiday album is a great opportunity to encourage people to be together at this time. I had a lot of fun recording this album and creating the cover design. It was a pleasure for me to work with Dave Cobb in his legendary RCA studio, where John Prine once put up a Christmas tree for a festive atmosphere. I liked this tradition and followed it to keep the Christmas spirit alive. ”
