They appeared in a town called Twin Peaks a quarter of a century after the mysterious disappearance of FBI agent Dale Cooper. They were previously spotted in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It was there that they got along wonderfully. Being brothers on their mother’s side, the brothers did not send each other on their mother’s side, but mastered all the musical instruments that came to hand, starting with a grater and ending with a garlic chopper. The history of music remembers many examples of not just a family contract, but fraternal cooperation, which gave rise to truly great music.
In the 1930s, the Mills brothers lip-synced Duke Ellington’s orchestra. In the 1950s, the Everly brothers set the standard for polyphony in rock music. In the 1970s, the Young brothers defied all standards except Chicago, settling in Australia. Brothers Jack Torrey and Paige Burkham decided that cacti grow melodies. Their first studio album was produced by J.D. McPherson. The record turned out to be extremely cool (listen to “Change Your Ways Or Die”), reaching number 23 on the Americana Billboard chart.
Cactus Blossoms – Change Your Ways Or Die
An Everly ladle, half a tablespoon of Hank Williams, and a pinch of Marty Robbins were thrown into the pot. On their own, Jack and Paige added a sense of magical realism that permeates the entire album, but is especially keenly felt in the otherworldly “Mississippi”, where the music becomes a river and the river becomes lighter than the wind. In 2019, Cactus Blossoms abandoned their “uncle’s” services, founding their own label, Walkie Talkie Records, on which they began to release their own records in the midst of pandemics and vaccinations. Today, vaccination pandemics look like someone’s delirium, and the Cactus Blossoms band has recorded their fourth album, called “Every Time I Think About You.” You are invited to an exciting journey along paths that the player’s needle has never been on, Moon Dogs!
Something’s Got A Hold On Me pretends to be fervent country rock, but the real place of this song is near the campfires on the night of Ivan Kupala.
Go On is a magical ballad that expresses its love for John Lennon, Jeff Lynne and other Beatles with every fiber of its notes and arrangement.
Be What I Wanna is too lazy to seem like an attempt to play “black” rhythm and blues. Too sincere to be a parody. Too leisurely to decorate a twist party.
Every Time I Think About You is easy to imagine performed by Chris Isaac. The whole song is imbued with the spirit of Bach California.
There She Goes most vividly highlights the fallacy of the brothers’ desire to develop along the beaten path in the 1960s. Somewhere along the way, they will lose all their magic.
Keep Walkin’ is Sixties again. And even if Cactus Blossoms don’t pretend to be curly-haired hippies yet, they’ve come close to a dangerous edge.
Statues is absolutely, incredibly, intergalactically gentle and incomparable. Justifies all the previous nonsense. Roy Orbison is grinning approvingly from somewhere above.
Is It Any Wonder could be a rock action movie with a guitar in the spirit of Don Everly. Now, this West Coast pop-country is definitely enjoyable.
Honey I’m Homeless successfully combines folk and soul. Jack and Paige are singing in two voices again, which is always captivating. One of the best here.
Out Of My Mind (On Sunday) is reminiscent of the most popular Simon and Garfunkel songs. And it does not reach Simon-Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water” at all.
I don’t want to draw conclusions, but I have to. On this album, Cactus Blossoms, before reaching the status of a cult band, suddenly made several kangaroo jumps back, dropping most of the stocks of witch pollen in the air. The material, of course, is good, like a cat after castration. Although, of course, there are divine “Statues”. Our cats had high hopes for these guys. Hopefully, the guys will come to their senses. At midnight, the statues will come down from their pedestals, Moon Dogs!
Cactus Blossoms, Agent Cooper’s sons. Their song MISSISSIPPI is on the soundtrack for the 3rd season of Twin Peaks!
