Bellflower (2011) – Dreams of the post-apocalypse

The author’s cinema is on the agenda. Director, screenwriter, producer, actor, priest, reaper, on the doodler and (probably) just a good man – Evan Glodell. He managed to make an awesome story for 17 thousand greenbacks (nothing for a movie). The film is ambiguous and not everyone will like it, but damn, whoever likes it, will like it in full. I haven’t seen such a good drama for a long time. It is very tough, but at the same time… smooth. Smooth, yes. In general, the whole film is replete with a certain smoothness. The narration is neat, soft, despite the sharpness of the events taking place in the film. The characters are the same: bright, but at the same time vague. Their character is like… has no boundaries. At least on the screen they are not clearly marked. Perhaps due to the fact that the whole film feels exactly like that, as if the characters themselves are trying to find their limit, constantly testing it for strength.

All this smooth brightness reminds me of the lines from one Muse song: “She burns like the sun, and I can’t look away. She’ll burn our horizons, make no mistake…” – and these words perfectly describe my opinion of the film. There is a plot here that is quite simple, but which can still make you think about a couple of moments. There are unknown, but very good actors here. There is… cinema as art. Oh, I don’t know, probably this is one of those rare films that I liked so much that I just turned off and watched with pleasure, and so now I don’t know what to write about. I would take a closer look at the car, which is the central part of the plot in the film, but it just so happened that we devoted a separate article to it. In general, it’s hard for me to single out anything specifically in the film, I’m sorry. But I sincerely recommend everyone to watch it and make up their own opinion. A separate line except that I would like to mention an excellent soundtrack, in which Chromatics, Southpaw Swagger are present, and one Jonathan Keevil stands out, who provided excellent low-fi compositions. This, of course, is not rock and roll at all and is somewhat out of the theme of our site, but I think it’s worth compensating for the lack of words with a link to a piece of this soundtrack. Besides, it seems to me that listening to it will help you decide a little whether you should watch this movie. So, you can download eight tracks from the OST of this movie here:
